2019 Hume and Hovell Track

Last Sleep; tomorrow we start!
Coffee Plunger
Coffee Plunger

One more sleep to go and while we have most, but not all, of the organising for the trip done we still have so much to do both at work and at home today. This includes a repack. I almost wish we had at least one more day to get things done. I realise though that starting tomorrow or the next day wouldn’t make a difference and that there would always be something left undone.

One of our pre-hike habits is going off coffee as we just find that preparing it on a hike tends to be tedious and the quality, in most cases, is not what we expected. The downside of this is that we both end up with headaches after about two days without coffee so while Gill went through this a day or so ago it’s just hitting me now but that’s better than hitting us on the trail with a 15-20 kg pack.

The weather forecast for the next seven days is still looking good with the only real chance of rain being five days into the trip and even then its not a big chance. I don’t think I know how to walk when it’s not raining 🙂  Thankfully the forecast maximum temperatures seem to be backing off, but with that the minimum forecast temperatures, while relatively mild on what it could be, its showing an actual temperature of 3.6º Ceclius but an apparent temperature of -7.3º Celcius – oh joy!

Both Gill and I would like to thank everyone for their online support we have received as we commence this trip. We deliberately chose this track because it is not so well known or used and we are looking forward to sharing it with you. If you are up and about at approximately 8:00 am on Saturday 31 August we will be doing a live Facebook feed as we kick off this trip so join us online as we start this great adventure.
