Some people break their sunglasses. Others scratch their sunglasses. But I just seem to lose them. In fact, I have stopped counting how many pairs of sunglasses I have lost. The really disappointing thing is that that I generally lose the expensive ones. Congrats to those who scored my pair of Ray Bans on the Hume and Hovell Track or the pair of Bolle’s that were snapped up while sightseeing in Sydney less in less than a minute of them being ‘lost’!
So, in recent years I have gravitated towards UV compliant glasses at the cheaper end – my Liive The Edge Sunglasses have been a mainstay for a while. However, I also like a bit of colour and as good as the The Edge sunglasses are, they are also black…just black!
The main features I like most in my sunglasses are a close to face fit and a slight wrap – not too much and not too little. And I don’t mind to journey beyond the tortoiseshell sunglasses as classical and enduring as they are. The Goodr range is all that and more and with their availability in Australia you can now make a fashion statement without breaking the bank.
The first thing you need to know about Goodr is that as a company they are best described as ‘quirky’. This is reflected in the Bug G names including Grass Stain Hall of Fame, In My Perwinkle Prime and Cleared for Takeoff. The colour range matches these names and if you want to make a fashion statement these sunglasses do just that. I have a pair of Bug Gs in Grass Stain Hall of Fame – think jungle green with orange trim and I love them. Having said that, they do make sunglasses that are fairly sedate so if you don’t want to stand out they have glasses to suit everyone’s tastes.
These sunglasses are a plastic frame and polycarbonate lens which means they are very lightweight; my Bug Gs weigh 29 grams so they are very much on the lighter end of the scale
Size wise is where these sunglasses can be a bit challenging. Goodr produce a variety of sizes including ‘normal’ and ‘huge’! The Bug Gs are for what Goodr calls ‘medium noggins’ although I would suggest they are on the small size of medium which suits me just fine. While the bridge and nose pads aren’t adjustable, the glasses to fit comfortably. In fact, once in place the Bug Gs stay put no matter the outdoor activities I’m engaging in. They even sit still when on my forehead and tucked into the front of my t shirt courtesy of locking folding arms.
Price wise these sunglasses sit around AUD $69.00 RRP (with cheaper models available) which is cheap as sunglasses go, particularly for such a fashion focused sunglass. While they aren’t likely to be as durable as a glass lens, at this price they aren’t going to break the bank. In fact for such a good looking and quirky range of sunglasses, these are great value.
All Goodr sunglasses are polarised with the lenses coming in smoked lenses as well as a mirrored finishes and given the sheer range, there is something for everyone.
So for those hikers out there with ‘medium noggins’ who also want to make a bit of a fashion statement, the Bug G sunglass range is a great option.
