The first thing you need to know about Goodr is that as a company they are best described as ‘quirky’. They sunglass names include thing like Beelzebub’s Bourbon Burpees, Polly Wants a Cocktail, Iced by Sas-squat, Dr. Ray Sting, and many, many more. The colour range matches these names and if you want to make a fashion statement the sunglasses do just that. Having said that, they do make sunglasses that are fairly sedate so if you don’t want to stand out they have glasses to suit everyone’s tastes.
In addition to eye protection and durability another key selection criteria is appearance – I like to have that ‘feel good’ factor with whatever I’m wearing, sunglasses included. So again this has always pushed me towards the upper end of the sunglass price range.
Now with the availability of Goodr Sunglasses in Australia you can now make a fashion statement without breaking the bank. I first heard about Goodr Sunglasses from a number of US podcasts so when they became available in Australia thought it was time to give them a go.
These sunglasses are a plastic frame and polycarbonate lens which means they are very lightweight; the two pairs we purchased weigh 18 grams and 29 grams respectively so they are very much on the lighter end of the scale
Size wise is where these sunglasses can be a bit challenging. Goodr produce a variety of sizes including ‘normal’ and ‘huge’! As a generalisation this range of sunglasses runs small and when Tim purchased the Mach G model to suit his him he found out to be on the narrow side which is how I inherited them. The other thing to consider is the profile of these glasses and while they are an ‘aviation style’ they dont tend too big the face and as such they are fairly flat in profile so are inclined to let sunlight enter from the sides. Goodr do produce a full wrap around pair of glasses which is aimed at cyclists and runners but I’ve never been a fan of this style of eye protection. And they are made for ‘normal’ sized heads which apparently isn’t me.
Price-wise the Mach G model sunglasses sit around AUD $59.00 RRP which is relatively cheap as sunglasses go, particularly for such a fashion focused sunglass. While they aren’t likely to be as durable as a glass lens, at this price they aren’t going to break the bank. In fact for such a good looking and quirky range of sunglasses, these are great value. The plus with the price and the appearance is they they look more expensive than they are so they are cheap enough to have a couple of pairs of different colour to suit your outfit on the day!
All Goodr sunglasses are polarized with the lenses coming in smoked lenses as well as a mirrored finishes and given the sheer range, there is something for everyone.
So for those hikers out there with average sized heads who also want to make a bit of a fashion statement, this sunglass range is a great option.
