Show notes

On 11 November 2017 Australian Hiker celebrated its first birthday. This episode is a reflection on our past year and where we are heading over the next 12 months. Gill and I would like to thank you for all your support over the past year as we wouldn’t have come as far as we have without you.

Here are some of the key milestones that we reached in our first 12 months:

  • 45 Podcast episodes (we originally planned 38)
  • 19,713 podcast downloads
  • Australian Hiker podcast downloaded in 61 countries
  • 54 trail reviews
  • 114 gear reviews
  • 88 general articles on hiking practice, safety, recipes, definitions and fitness

Here’s what we have planned for 2018

  • 42 planned podcast episodes
  • 50+ trail reviews
    • Including a number of well know multi day walks such as the Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail in South Australia
    • By the end of 2018 we will have reviewed trails from all Australian states and will be expanding out from our home base of the Nations Capital, Canberra
    • Two new podcast segments including ‘Trail news’ and ‘Trail questions’
  • An expansion on our gear reviews
  • A stronger focus on ‘no cook’ trail recipes
  • A series of Ebooks
  • Tim will also be undertaking a multi week thru-hike of one of Australia’s long distance trails (to be announced at the start of May 2018).
  • You can also look forward to some surprises in 2018 so keep an out eye on our website and Facebook page

We are looking forward to some great adventures in the next 12 months and to sharing them with you!

Listening to the Australian Hiker Podcast

What is a Podcast?

While many people are familiar with podcasts, to some the term is an unknown. So what is a podcast? The best way to think of a podcast is as digital radio on demand. You get to listen to a program of your choice at a time of your choosing and through your preferred technology e.g. the computer, a smart phone, or a tablet, etc.

Podcasts have the advantage over other types of electronic media in that you can be doing other activities  such as driving to work or exercising while you listen.
