086-Australian Hiker 2nd Birthday

On 11 November 2018 Australian Hiker celebrated its second birthday. Over the past year we have been building up our online resources to help us make Australian Hiker your ‘Go to Hiking Resource’. We realise that we still have a long way to go.

This episode is a reflection on our past year and where we are heading into the future. Gill and I would like to thank all our friends and supporters for helping us to greatly exceeded our expectations; we couldn’t have done so without you.

Here are some of the key milestones that we reached in our second year:

  • 86 podcasts released in total making us Australia’s longest running hiking podcast.
    • Over 135,000 total podcast downloads
    • Australian Hiker podcast now downloaded in 111 countries around the world

    • A revamp of the podcast including new recording processes and new regular sections

  • 93 trail reviews published
    •  All trail are walked by us; its a slow process
    • By the end of 2018 we will have trail reviews published in all Australian States and Territories
  • 198 gear reviews
  • 119 general articles on hiking practice, safety, recipes, definitions and fitness
  • Tim undertook his first long distance through hike on the Bibbulmun Track

 

Here’s what we have planned for 2019

In the past year we has a couple of projects that we didn’t get to and will continue to work towards progressing them in the coming year.

  • Regularly published trail recipes
  • Release of our planned Ebooks

In addition we will continue to walk and review trails throughout Australia with our focus continuing on southern NSW.

In addition in 2019 we have two larger trips planned.

    • A well known Australian trail; and
    • Our main trip for 2019 in Europe

We are looking forward to some great adventures in the next 12 months and to sharing them with you!
