This year I have started working with a personal trainer experienced in adventure activities. I have found that this has greatly improved my trip preparation and has provided a more targeted lead-in to my trips which has delivered results.
As a lead-in to any hike this physical preparation includes pack training. This preparation starts well in advance and builds up to carrying a fully loaded pack. It typically means that our final test is a long walk similar to our typical average day on trail to see how we go. On this trip both Gill and I will be using new packs so it’s also an opportunity to fine tune the harness adjustments and get used to the features that are different to the packs we’ve been using recently.
