Anker USB C 65W Wall Charger Review

If you are going on a hike longer than about 1-2 weeks and are carrying electronic equipment that will require beyond what is practical with power banks then you will need to access a recharge powerpoint at some stage.

On my multi week hikes such as the Bibbulmun Track hike (5 weeks in my case) I was carrying a fair amount of electronics because of my blogging with my longest section without power being 8 days. As soon as I hit my accomodation and dropped my pack off I started to charge all my electronic gear. To suit my needs I wanted something robust, compact, and durable, that I was also able to charge three devices at once (Sometimes you only have access to a single powerpoint for short periods such as lunch breaks). To this end I opted for the Anker USB C 65W Wall Charger Wall Charger which covers all my electronics. This unit comes with 2 USBC ports and the older USB port so catered for all of my charing requirements. In addition the narrow width of this unit works well on double powerpoint. My previous charger had a wide profile and as a result it blocked the second powerpoint being used on a double powerpoint.

This unit, which  works in Australia and New Zealand, having a specific plug type and while you could use it overseas you will need an adaptor which will greatly increase the weight and fiddliness. When I travel overseas I opt for a country specific unit unless I’m travelling widely across areas that require a constant change in plug types where I will then use a multi country adaptor.

The downside with this unit is the weight and at 200grams its heavier that many options of this type. This weight is not unexpected given its a durably built unit and also a fast charger so can charge most laptops, power banks and other electronics much faster than the lighter options.

Price wise this will charger sells for AUD $59.99 RRP but is often available at heavily discounted prices. I know own two of these units which I use around the house and one of these will accompany me on my longer trips. As I said most hikers may not need to use a wall charger but if you are into multi-week, long distance hiking and and are travelling heavy with the electronics then this is a great option that will find a firm place in your pack, and for that matter around the house.

We Like

  • Charge 3 pieces of equipment at once through USB cables and will manage the charging rates across each item
    • 1 X USB-A
    • 2 x USB-C
  • Compact, narrow profile and fast charging for most laptops as well as smaller devices
  • Robust abdominal durable

We Don't Like

  • Useable in Australia and New Zealand only,  adaptor retired for overseas use
  • A bit on the heavy side but thats the trade off for fast charging and durability
