Sea to Summit Hydraulic Packing Cube Review

At the time of this review this range of packing cells had really only been readily available for a short period and I must admit I had held off finalising the review until they were readily available in a range of stores which is now the case. This range of packing cells currently come in 5 different sizes ranging in volume from 0.75litres-9litres with the medium size being 3.7litres in capacity.

These packing ‘cubes’ as the name suggests are squarish/rectangular in shape which has its pros and cons. Because of the shape there is the ability to stack these packing cells which you can’t really do with dry bags. As such while I’m unlikely to use the larger sized cells for hiking, preferring the freeform dry bags that you can stuff into tiny spaces but I can see myself using the smaller cells for various bits of electronic gear.

Where I see the benefit of these packing cells is for use in car storage and of storage of products at home and this isn’t just because of the stackable shape. These cells aren’t waterproof but rather water resistant, and with that also dust resistant/insect resistant so if you are travelling in areas where fine dust tends to get everywhere these are a great option. In addition I store a lot of my hiking and camping gear in the garage so like to keep the more sensitive material based gear away from the various insect pests.

These packing cells come in a range of muted colours but in addition the top of the pack has an opaque plastic covering that allows you to see inside without opening each cell which is a handy feature if you are using multiple packs of the same size.

The medium size pack is priced at AUD $49.99 RRP so it isn’t cheap as a storage option of this size even given its many features so its best to look at these high quality storage devices as a long term purchase, and Ione that your going to have for many years.

So while I’m only likely to use the smaller cubes for hiking when it comes time over the next year to redo my gear storage cupboard and get my car set up for some upcoming rod trips then these cubes will feature as part of that.
