Campers Pantry Chipotle Pulled Beef Review

I tested out the  Campers Pantry Chipotle Pulled Beef the day after I tested the Campers Pantry Pulled Beef Brisket and while for all intense purposes they look the same, apart from the texture of the meat, thats where the similarity ends.

Just like the Campers Pantry Pulled Beef Brisket Campers Pantry suggest adding it to tacos or wraps and in my case I tested this out as part of a wrap as well as eating this meat straight up. Just like the brisket option the meat is soft and tender but where this meal offering differs is hinted at in the name. The Chipotle component of this meat based meal provides a smokey spice hit without being to overpowering but certainly a level above the brisket and if you aren’t in love with spice you are likely to find this more than you can cope with. In my case given the choice of the Campers Pantry Pulled Beef Brisket or the Campers Pantry Chipotle Pulled Beef  the chipotle wins out; easily, even though the meal option is 20% smaller!

This freeze dried option comes in small sized chunks in the packet and you will need to break up the large chunks when you add the recommended 200ml of hot water otherwise you will find that you will end up with chunks of meat that haven’t quite rehydrated and in addition what does may be a bit wetter than you may like. As such I added slightly less than the recommended amount of water and after 5 minutes added a tiny bit more as required and break up any larger chunks.

Being a meat dish the entire twin serve packet provides 408 calories along with 30 grams of protein. While this meal is suggested as a twin serve I tried this for lunch as a wrap, and just like the brisket I ate the rest out of the packet. I was full by the end of it. I think for most people you are unlikely to eat the whole lot in one go so I would suggest that you bring a good ziplock bag and split the freeze dried component in two a meal later on down the track.

For me there is really only one negative of this meal and at the risk of providing to much information it made me very ‘gassy’! this hit me about 30 minutes after eating it and continued for a number of hours after. As a solo hiker it wouldn’t be an issue but if you sharing a tent just make sure that you partner eats it s well.

Price wise this twin serve meal comes out at AUD $24.99 which is similar to other twin meals however given it is a real meat based option its very good value.

The Campers Pantry Pulled Beef Brisket is a great choice for meat lovers out there and regardless of weather you eat this a part of larger meal or as a standalone without adding anything to it most hikers will appreciate the uniqueness that it brings to your on trail experience. If you dont like spice then stick to the brisket option.
