Campers Pantry continues to release innovative products and as part of this upgrade they have redone the packaging to make it stand out in an increasingly crowded market segment, making more compact and space saving vat the same time. The Campers Pantry Pulled Beef Brisket is one of a range of slow cooked meats that they have released over the past year and they promote it as an option to add to tacos or wraps and in my case I tested this out as a wrap as well as eating this meat straight up.
Brisket has always had a reputation as being a soft and tender meat and the Campers Pantry offering is just that. This freeze dried option comes in small sized chunks in the packet and you will need to break up the large chunks when you add the recommended 180ml of hot water otherwise you will find that you will end up with chunks of meat that haven’t quite rehydrated and in addition what does may be a bit wetter than you may like. As such I added slightly less than the recommended amount of water and after 5 minutes added a tiny bit more as required and broke up the larger chunks.
Taste wise this meat dish does contain smoke flavour, some spices, and salt, however it isn’t going to upset anyone with a sensitivity to spice. The other beef option from Campers Pantry, the Chipotle Pulled Beef hits the spot for spice lovers.
Being a meat dish the entire twin serve packet provides 528 calories along with 46 grams of protein which is pretty good option if you decide to eat this all in one go. While this meal is suggested as a twin serve I tried this for lunch as a wrap, and then decided I wanted more so just ate the rest out of the packet. I think for most people you are unlikely to eat the whole lot in one go as so I would suggest that you bring a good ziplock bag and split the freeze dried component in two to have as a meal later on down the track.
Price wise this twin serve meal comes out at AUD $24.99 which is similar to other twin meals however given it is a real meat based option its very good value.
The Campers Pantry Pulled Beef Brisket is a great choice for meat lovers out there and regardless of whether you eat this a part of larger meal or as a standalone without adding anything to it most hikers who eat meat will appreciate the uniqueness that it brings to your on trail experience.
