Definition

Someone attempting a long distance trail in one continuous hike (e.g. Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail or Bibbulmun Track) requiring detailed planning and extended time commitment to attempt, let alone complete.  While the term is mainly associated with the USA it is becoming more widely spread as hikers around the world take up this extended form of hiking.
