This isn’t a product that you are going to carry on a hike but when you have set up a ‘basecamp‘ in a central location then a table of this type comes in handy. For us camping tends to be a bit of a low key affair and we will usually travel with the minimum of paraphernalia. Also, we aren’t ‘sit at a table type of campers’ so when looking for a table we wanted something that would fit in between our camp chairs to accomodate our drinks and snacks. We also want somewhere stable for our small portable stove. After a number of weeks of doing my online trawling we opted for the Zempire Slatpac Standard Table and here’s why.
We don’t always take the same tent and seating with us on camping trips which depends on what we are trying to achieve and how light we want to travel. So first up we wanted an adjustable height table that would fit the type of seating we use which varies in height. This table has the ability to be adjusted anywhere from 38 to 70cm in height with the flick of a locking tab on each leg. You just need to remember to do the adjustment first otherwise you run the risk of tipping things off the table. This is perhaps the biggest factor for us in table choice. In addition having adjustable legs means that if the ground is uneven or slightly sloped we are able to adjust the legs individually to get a stable flat surface in almost any terrain.
Next up we wanted a table with a solid top because this is where we do our cooking and so lightweight mesh based tops were out. This left us with an aluminium, melamine/plastic or wooden top options to choose from. I must admit purely for longevity reasons I wanted an aluminium top as its less prone to warping or damage and while metal is definitely heavier this one is not a big impost in you vehicle.
Set up of this table is pretty quick and easy and can be done in around one minute. You just fold the frame out, extend the legs and then attach the top but you need to be aware that if you decide to move the table and there are things on top, you should use two people to ensure that the top doesn’t seperate from the legs.
Packing away is also pretty simple and really involves wiping down the table to remove any food residue or dirt and then folding the base and rolling up the top. Fitting everything back into its carry bag is also quite easy.
So what’s the verdict? As mentioned we had already done all the research and decided that this was the table for us – it is very versatile and will fit the majority of our camping adventures. A great little table.
