Wilderness Wear Light Merino 170 Men's Leggings

The Wilderness Wear Light Merino 170 Men’s Leggings are definitely a garment for the colder months and for me these leggings only ever come into use when the temperatures drop below -5° Celcius for extended periods. In all honesty even though I do hike in those conditions it’s rare I use them for additional warmth but it’s nice to know that I have them if I need to keep me warm. If I am going into cold conditions I will carry them from a safety perspective to ensure I have the appropriate layering.

I have a high degree of cold tolerance so a lighter weight pair such as this 170 gram option is all I ever need as opposed to the 190 or 200 gram options available. My main use for this garment is as night clothes. I travel fairly light and only bring one pair of pants on a multi-week trip so I will often use these when its washing day (its a great look…not).

There are plenty of thermal legging options on the market but the big plus with the Wilderness Wear Light Merino 170 Men’s Leggings apart from keeping you warm is that they are Australian made using Australian merino wool. For a high quality garment like this I am happy to support an Australian product. The garment weight of 170 grams is at the lighter end of the thermal market but unless you are doing some serious snow work or you really feel the cold, they will suit most people well.

As with other Wilderness Wear gear the stitching is flat lock and the slim-fit style fits well particularly given the nine size options which means there is a size to suit everyone.

One unique thing with these leggings from a male perspective is that they don’t have a ‘y’ front. This doesn’t particularly bother me as its not a feature I have ever used. As such even though this is a male fit it may also suit some females as well. These garments last well and are unlikely to need replacing that often. Usually I only ever replace my leggings every 7-10 years.

So if you are looking at a thermal layer to keep your legs warm in the colder months then this is a great option.
