Storm is a UK based company that has a range of products for caring for and rejuvenating outdoor clothing. This range of products is relatively new to the Australian market but one that’s gaining traction and is becoming easier to source.
For many of us, our outdoor clothing gets thrown in the wash along with everything else garnering no special treatment. While this may work OK, using a dedicated cleaning/care product provides a better outcome. This cleaner is designed for use with the technical materials used in outdoor clothing these days but is suitable for all gear including softshell garments (fleece), technical waterproof apparel and sleeping bags. The other difference with this range of cleaners over your usual washing detergents is they contain silver ions which kill bacteria. If you’ve ever worn clothing for an extended period then you know how long it can take to get that smell out.
The main function of Storm Clothing Wash-in Cleaner is as a cleaning product. Think of it as the initial treatment in a two-step process that would be followed by a waterproofing product like Storm Eco Proofer Spray-On particularly if you’re heading into a hike where moisture is going to be an issue. A bottle of Storm Clothing Wash-in Cleaner will do three washes in most cases and while its designed for use in soft or hard water, you may want to drop this down to two washes if you live in an area where the water is hard.
At AUD$13.90 RRP this product is competitively priced so won’t break the bank. My hiking gear gets a lot of use and while I don’t use dedicated cleaners and rejuvination products on a regular basis, I do run all my clothing through a wash with a product like this both immediately prior to and following a long trip to ensure my gear performs at its best.
