Real Meals Sri Lankan Curry Review

I usually don’t start a review in this way but for me the Real Meals Sri Lankan Curry is a real winner and one that will definitely go into my hiking meal rotation, and here’s why.

First up this is a curry, but not a hot and spicy one. It’s one that has just enough flavour to it at a level most people won’t find overpowering. Secondly this is a chicken based curry meal which is always a plus for me and unlike some cheaper options on the market that use soy based protein, Real Meals uses real chicken which you can definitely taste.

Taste and texture wise this meal has the feel of a restaurant curry and left me with a warm feeling from the first bite. Real Meals talks about this curry having a ‘mellow cumin warmth to suit all pallets’ and that’s a perfect description.

The sodium level in this meal is 164 mg which is considered low but given the level of taste of this meal I didn’t give the salt level a thought. Calorie wise if you eat this as a single serve you get a 586 calorie hit which is just what you need after a big day hiking. At AUD $19.99 RRP it sits within the typical freeze dried meal pricing so isn’t overly expensive and given it real meat, the price is reasonable. It’s also worth noting that this is a high protein meal containing 40.3 grams which sits in the upper end of freeze dried meals.

Water wise we added the recommend amount which is 250 ml and this worked out to be a good consistency. I left the meal to rehydrate for the recommended 10 minutes and this was also spot on.

I usually talk about negatives at this point but for me there are none; this meal is that good.

So as I said at the start of this review this is a great meal, one that I really enjoyed and one I am happy to recommend so give it a try.
