The Real Meals Dal Makhani isn’t the only dal (Dahl) on the market, in fact it’s one of three that we have dried and one of only two single serve options.
First up this is a dal (dhal) and while I make a mean spicy version at home this version from scratch at home the Real Meals version has a bit of sweetness to it without being excessive and in looking at the the ingredient panel it isn’t loaded with sugar. The spice level is very mild and will suit all hikers. Texture wise this meal is a typical dal (Dhal) but Gill thought that it could have been a bit less watery but from my perspective the recommended 250ml addition of boiling water was spot on as was the 10 minute rehydration time.
Sodium wise the sodium level is high at 566mg but you can’t really taste the salt. Calorie wise if you eat this as a single serve you get a 445 calorie meal thats warm and filling
At AUD $19.99 RRP the Real Meals Dal Makhani is towards the higher end of the single serve freeze dried range but given the taste this meal is great value and one that will get added to my meal rotation for my hikes.
