Real Meals Berry Smoothie Review
As we make our way through the Real Meals range it was time to test out the Real Meals Berry Smoothie. The bonus of a smoothie as a meal on-trail is that you just need to add cold water and once rehydrated it’s ready to eat; no hot water or stove required. Even though you can consume a smoothie at any time of the day, in my case this hits the spot as a lunch, but you choose.
Water wise the recommendation is to add 375 ml and given this is a liquid meal this works out well creating a not-too-thick, not-too-thin smoothie. Taste wise, from my perspective this smoothie rates as the best on the outdoor market; it tastes like a berry smoothie and has real berries in it unlike other options on the freeze dried market. Calorie wise this smoothie provides 430 calories in this single serve packet which is a great option for some quick calories on-trail.
Now for the negatives. At AUD $14.25 RRP this is also the dearest smoothie on the market but given the taste and quality, this smoothie is also the best, at least in my opinion. The other thing with this meal is that it comes in a standard freeze dried meal packet. So when you rehydrate it you can drink from the packet, but its a bit fiddly so you may be better off pouring it into a cup or mug.
If you are into smoothies as a meal option then this is definitely a high quality, quick and easy option but only you can decide if this is worth the price.
