Radix Nutrition Berry & Banana Post Workout Smoothie Review

This smoothie offering from Radix Nutrition is quite different to what already exists on the hiking market. It’s sold as a ‘post workout smoothie’ and in reviewing this product that’s an important differentiation. In a perfect world you want to consume protein shortly after a workout to help build and repair muscle tissue broken after a long day of hiking and this is particularly import for multi-day long distance hikers or after a big day on the trail. This Radix Smoothie is the perfect solution providing 30 grams of protein which is almost double what’s available in other products.

Along with the high levels of protein this smoothie doesn’t have any added sugar and while we found the Cacao and Banana version of this smoothie not sweet enough in this case the sweetness level was ‘just right’. The flavour of this smoothie is advertised as Berry & Banana and thats what you get. I added the recommended 300ml of water and texture wise this smoothie is thick but not to thick.

Calorie wise this smoothies comes in at 295 calories this smo0thie isn’t as high in calories compared to other options like the Back Country Cuisine Smoothies  which come in at 411 calories. Having said that I prefer the less sweet taste of this Radix option but that’s going to be a personal choice. In addition as a post workout smoothie this is about muscle reiteration after exercise and that includes a long hard day on the trail. Price wise this smoothie sits around the $6.50 mark so is on the dearer side.

Should you consider tasting this smoothie? The answer is yes! Sometimes you just want a quick small meal with minimal effort and in this case to replace protein at the end of the day to help with muscle regeneration. For me this is the pick of the Radix Smoothie options that we’ve tried to date.
