Osprey Hydraulics Hose Magnet Kit

Usually people talk about the big stuff like packs, tents and sleeping bags and while they are extremely important to your comfort sometimes it’s the little things that go a long way to improving the quality of your hike. The Osprey Hydraulics Hose Magnet Kit is one of those little accessories.

This product is squarely aimed at water bladder users, like me, with the sole function being to keep your water bladder hose fixed in one position. Now I own and use this particular product. My three Osprey Water bladders come with this magnetic clip as a standard fixture however it is also available to purchase as a seperate item for use on other bladder brands. As much as I love my Osprey water bladders with so much choice on the market its these little clips that really make the difference.

The clip comes in two parts with one component fitting on to a narrow chest clip (It won’t suit a wide chest clip) and the other part sliding on the hose of the water bladder. The two parts are magnetic and clip together very easily and without much effort. The thing I like about this is that the clip sits in exactly the same position and doesn’t flop about to annoy me.

The are only two small negatives on this clip. The first is this product is so specific that there really is only one use although I’m sure there are some very creative people out there who could come up with alternative uses. The second negative is also the magnetic ability of the clip. Many of Australia’s soils have an iron component and if you drop the clip on the ground it will pick up iron particles if present. It’s an easy fix requiring you to wipe the magnet down and on a long hike, I will do this on a daily basis. It’s a small negative but one that does exist.

I have been using this clip system for over six years now and will continue to use it until something better comes on the market.

We like

• Almost weightless at 11grams
• Holds the hose of your water bladder in exactly the right spot so you don’t need to search for it
• Prevents the hose from flapping around which I find really annoying

We don't like

• Being magnetic it’s inclined to pick up magnetic particles in the soil so it’s best to avoid laying the magnetic components on the ground
• Wont suit packs that have a wide chest clip
