Macpac Down Booties Review
These are exactly what the name says, they are a 600 loft down filled bootie which Macpac markets as the ‘ultimate hut and home slipper’.
Visually these booties are very much like a down jacket, black in colour, with a soft flexible black sole. The inside of these booties consists of a polyester fleece lining and they are comfortable enough to wear with or without socks. The downside of the thin soles is that they are designed as house/hut slippers but aren’t designed to be worn outside in wet muddy areas although I regularly wear them when it’s not wet outside to collect my mail. We have both had our booties for over two years and in my case the outer sole has holes worn in them however the inner soles are still very much intact. Gill’s pair on the other hand are still in very good condition.
The sizing of these booties is generous – we both have large feet but I wear a size L and Gill the size S.
Price wise these booties have a RRP of $79.99 AUD but they do sell for a discounted price to Macpac members.
These booties can best be described as a piece of gear that fits into the luxury category as far as hiking gear goes. We don’t tend to wear them on our hikes but we do wear them on the occasional hike where we are staying in huts to keep our feet warm and so we can leave the dirty footwear outside. By far our biggest use for these booties is as slippers at home and for this we wear them for most of the year in all but the hottest weather.
We Like
- Comfy at the end of the day as a house slipper or on-trail as hut footwear
- Our two pairs have lasted more than two years
We Don't Like
- For use on solid dry surfaces only, not for use on natural wet surfaces
- One colour only
