Icebreaker Oasis Women’s Long Sleeve Crewe Top Review
It’s been a while since I’ve done a review of Icebreaker clothing. I do love 100% Merino clothing for hiking but I also love Aussie made. So in the last few years I’ve gravitated towards the Wilderness Wear Women’s Merino Mid 195 Long Sleeve Scoop Neck Top which is both Aussie Merino and Aussie made. While Icebreaker Merino is sourced from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, they aren’t Aussie (or NZ) made. I guess you can’t have everything! Having said that, Icebreaker does have a lot information on its website about its ethical and sustainable sourcing of labour and materials.
This top is soft and comfortable, and has withstood some serious hiking wear. It’s designed for cool conditions given its 200 GSM fabric weight.
The Oasis Crewe features BodyfitZone™ ‘engineered body mapping technology to regulate your body temperature and let your skin breathe during high intensity activity.’ That means you can wear it as a standalone or as part of your layering system.
It comes in five sizes – XS, S, M, L and XL. I wear S and have plenty of room to move but I do prefer my clothes on the close fit-side which is what these tops are designed for. The sleeve length is great providing adequate cover for my longish arms. The body length is generous without drowning those (like me) who have a shorter torso. There are six colours: Black, Gritstone Heather (light grey), Midnight Navy, Go Berry (crimson), Purple Gaze (mauve) and Electron Pink (deep pink). I have Purple Gaze and I’m very happy with the colour.
The price ranges from $109.99 to $129.99 depending on the colour and size – a reflection that some colours/sizes are more popular than others.
Anyone who has read my clothing reviews knows that my Merino hiking gear needs to cope with the washer and the drier – there’s no hand washing or flat drying for gear that is supposed to withstand days of wear and tear on the trail. I’m pleased to report that this top washes up really well and as you’d expect from a 100% wool, there’s no sign of pilling!
The Oasis Crewe is durable, value for money and transitions well from dusty hiking trails to a mid morning coffee catchup.
