Gerber ComplEAT Utensil Review
We are always on the lookout for versatile eating utensils and the Gerber ComplEAT is just that. A fork, spoon, tongs, spatula and a 4 function multi-tool … all in one! It connects together in the handle of the spatula which cleverly keeps everything neatly in one place.
The spoon and fork are made of anodised aluminium and opener tool is made from stainless steel. The spatula material is high temperature nylon with a silicone over-mold. One thing I don’t like about some hiking utensils is that the face of the spoons and forks are sometimes rough – can’t describe it any other way. This makes it very hard to keep them clean – food tends to stick and accumulates over time. Even a dishwasher struggles to clean them up. The nice thing about the Gerber ComplEAT is that the surfaces are very smooth so food doesn’t stick and they clean up easily and quickly on the trail.
I don’t generally have use for a multi tool opener but its there if you do – I guess you could always leave it at home if you’re unlikely to need one. But in this case I’m sure you’ll find a use for a bottle opener, a veggie peeler, a serrated package opener and/or a can opener!
The fork or spoon can be used with the spatula to form tongs – really! Such great design and versatility! The spoon has a deep basin and the fork tines are reasonably long so you’ll get a bit of the comfort of home out in the bush.
This is a great utensil that has so much versatility – we love it!

- The multi-tool will open bottles, peel veggies, open packaging and open cans
We don't like
- There are some sharp edges on the multi tool so care is needed when nesting/un-nesting the utensils
