Exploring Timor-Leste on Foot

Book Review

Exploring Timor-Leste on Foot  Book

Timor Leste is one of those hidden locations that dues to its volatile recent past has really only started to get a reputation as a tourist destination and that brings with it a number of pluses and minus. As a new tourism destination you get to see a country that is still redeveloping and hasn’t gotten to the stage where everything becomes over commercialised. The downside is that this lack of commercialisation can often make it harder to find all those little details that information driven types like myself want to know before you arrive.

This is where Exploring Timor-Leste on Foot: 30 incredible hikes in one of the least visited countries in the world, or Exploring Timor-Leste on Foot for short comes in handy. It’s a unique hiking guidebook for Timor Leste aimed at hiking and provided general information on each of these hikes. As an information driven individual I found this book over performed in some areas were a bit light on

What amazed me was the amount of detail for just about any activity you could think of including transport, eateries, and other activities. It really was much more than I expected. The downside concerned the hikes. The information concerning each hike provided enough overview to allow readers to decide if this was something that would be of interest and there was plenty of choice across the various regions of the country. Some of the hikes had a reasonable amount of information whole others contained less than I personally would have likes. Having said that the hikes that were ‘self guided’ provided enough information to get you there and on this hikes were guiding was recommended there was also enough information to identify who can help you out. I’m just one of these people that likes a lot of detail. Given that this book in its kindle edition is 175 pages long it provides a lot of details about visiting Timor Leste so helps set you up. Just don’t expect to go wandering through the more serious hikes without some help, the country hasn’t set up the trail signage for this sort of hike yet.

We Like

  • If you are heading to Timor Leste and want to do some hikes then this is the main guidebook for you
  • A range of hiking distances and durations to suit everyone
  • Great detail on all sorts of activities that you wouldn’t expect such as transport, food, and other activities

We Don't Like

  • Additional details on some of the individual hikes would be nice but I’m information driven so prefer information overload.
