A stile is a structure which provides people a passage through or over a fence, boundary or wall via steps, ladders, or narrow gaps. Stiles are often built in rural areas along footpaths, fences, walls or hedges to prevent farm animals moving from one enclosure to another whilst still allowing path users to use the route. Sometimes they are a very simple structure while other times they are a very complex affair
