Shakedown Hike

Jargon

Definition

A shakedown hike is a limited distance hike carrying the full gear (including food and water) you need for a longer, extended trip. The aim of a shakedown hike is to try out gear, hiking practices, pack weight, and food choices before heading out for a proposed multiday hike/thru-hike.
