Scree

Jargon

Definition

Is a collection of small loose stones that pile up at the base of a cliff or slope (also see Talus). Scree slopes usually shift when you walk on them (similar to walking down a sand slope) and can unnerve many hikers particularly when travelling downhill as movement often involves sliding as much as walking.
