Luxury Items

Jargon

You may hear the term ‘luxury items’ used in relation to hiking and camping and everyone has their own idea about what is ‘essential’ and what is a ‘luxury’. Luxury items are those non-essential things which aren’t needed from a safety perspective but which may improve the quality and enjoyment of your hike. Examples of luxury items include small devices such as an iPad or a Kindle, a compact lightweight camping chair, an inflatable pillow, or even bottles of alcohol (still in the glass bottle). Perhaps the most unique item I have seen carried on an overnight hike is a portable DVD player!
