Cowboy camping

Jargon

Definition

While the term ‘Cowboy Camping’ is very much an American term there seems to be no direct translation into the Australian vernacular so Cowboy Camping it is. But what is it? ┬áIf you think about a cowboy, or cowgirl for that matter, sleeping out in the open at the end of a day’s work on the trail, well that’s pretty much it. Throw down a ground sheet and in modern times a sleeping mat for a bit of comfort, and sleep under the stars in your sleeping bag. This is camping in its simplest form but relies on decent weather and comfort with creepy crawlies.
