The first thing you need to know about this bungee lanyard is that the Action Sports Anchor products originated in the snow industry so think bulky clothing and gloves. In talking to the manufacturer about this product he created this range because he was sick of his kids losing their phones in the snowfields so decided to create a product to remedy the issue and discovered that there was a niche in the market that hadn’t been filled!
This is the second in this range we have tested having previously used the Actionsports Anchor The Wristy 23cm Tether which if I’m honest ,will be my go-to choice given how I use my electronics. So where does this model sit?
First up the key pieces of electronic gear I use are a high-end portable camera and an iPhone 15, while its rare for me to use a lanyards around town I use them all the time when going bush! I’m old school in how I take my photos preferring a high-end compact camera, at least for the moment. But when I take videos I prefer to use my phone. In the case of the camera I only ever use the Actionsports Anchor The Wristy 23cm Tether rather than this bungee lanyard but where I see this lanyard coming into its own is with mobile phones, particularly when your are wearing a bulky jacket.
Action Sports Anchors has put a lot of thought into this range of products from the fluorescent stretch bungee cord to the metal clips, the system based universal attachment lanyard. The 60cm lanyard allows you to attach the clip to a coat hook, belt hook or other similar attachment point on your clothing and even at full arm stretch to take a selfie or take an image over a cliff edge without having to worry about losing your phone. In one of the images below I have my phone tucked away in the pocket of my pants leg where my phone usually sits and the bungee cord attached to my belt loop. The only issue with this is in thick scrub there is the potential to get caught up. The manufacture has indicated that it sells a lot of these bungee coords to travellers going overseas particularly in countries where phone theft is rife. In snow conditions where your phone is likely to be in a jacket this bungee cord will work well.
This bungee coord comes in two components:
Price wise this unit sells for AUD $19.99 RRP and weighs 12 grams which is also the same weight as the wrist strap and is quite well priced for an Australian made product that is typically helping to protect a phone or camera – items that aren’t cheap to replace.
This is a great product and one I will use on those occasions when my phone lives in my winter jacket preferring mostly to use the wrist version. Alternatively I occasionally travel in countries where phone security is an issue and this is where this bungee cord will be a big help.
