REAVEE Tube Case Reading Glasses Review

I managed to go though most of my life without needing reading glasses but about 12 years ago I discovered that my arms were no longer long enough and I finally admitted defeat and purchased reading glasses. I am now at the stage where if the light is poor I can’t read fine print so have to carry reading glasses on all hikes.

My dedicated glasses which I use on a daily basis at work and home are frameless and aren’t cheap so I really worried about carrying them on a hike. In the end I decided that rather than destroying a very expensive set of glasses when I’m out bush that I would opt for a cheap set of ‘sometimes’ glasses that would meet my needs when I’m hiking and wouldn’t concern me if I lost or damaged them.

After trying out a few different types I settled on the REAVEE Tube Case Reading Glasses. These tiny glasses weight in at 33grams including case compared to my good pair which are 154grams; definitly ultralight. In addition at around AUD$18- $40 RRP for a 4-pair pack a pair (look for sales) you can afford to have a few of them.

In fact I bought six pairs on my last purchase as they are often much cheaper in a multi-pack and leave them in strategic spots like our cars, around the house, and my wife’s handbag. I used to purchase these from the local chemist but have found that they seem to be an Amazon purchase these days.

Now I need to say that my eyesight issues are fairly simple so these glasses work well for me however if you have more complex eyesight issues then they may not work for you. Purely and simply they provide magnification only. I don’t use these for long periods of reading such as work where I spend the majority of the day in front of a computer screen, but they do well what what I need them for out bush. So if you all you need is a simple correction ranging between 1.00-4.00, or you don’t want to bother with contacts out in the bush then these may be a good option.

We Like

  • Extremely lightweight at 33 grams
  • Compact
  • Relatively inexpensive, even cheaper when you multi them in multi-packs
  • Keeps you expensive glasses/contacts safe at home
  • An easy cheap option instead of contact lenses when you about bush.
  • Robust as glasses go

We Don't Like

  • These are a general purpose reading glass only so won’t necessarily resolve all eye issues or be suitable for everyone
  • Not the biggest of glasses but excellent for taking out bush

REAVEE Tube Case Reading Glasses. They come in a range of case colours

Best Uses

A good cheap-ish pair of glasses that will suit most people and that will do well in the ‘wilds’ providing you don’t have a complex prescription
