First up the “Thankful Bar is a collaboration between Thankful.org and Chief Nutrition, to raise awareness about the benefits of gratitude on health. Each bar you buy helps support Thankful in their mission to create positive social impact.”
This was the third product we tested from Chief Nutrition and rather than being meat based like the Chief Organic Biltong, or the Chief Beef Brisket, this is a vegetarian based product that includes amongst other thing oats. I have tried so many of this type of bar, including the well known Clif Bars, and with so many muesli type bars on the market, do we need yet another one?
What it comes down to is two key factors, ingredients and taste. On the ingredient side this one is reasonably healthy with minimal sugar and fat but that doesn’t really worry me too much. I’ll take it where I can but it really does come down to taste.
In the case of these bars there are three flavours.
Both Gill and I really liked these bars but having said that we had different favourites. The taste is good on all three and they do this without loading them up with sugar. In fact, each bar only contains 3.7 grams of sugar in the 30 gram package.
The only negative is the size of these bars which are 30 grams each and I would prefer a larger bar.
A pack of 12 is AUD $39.95 so each bar is $3.33. This price drops to $35.96 if you become a subscriber which means you get a box of 12 every 1-3 months (your choice). The price is comparable to healthy snack bars already on the market. It’s worth noting that cheaper bars often have heaps more sugar.
Speaking of boxes start of with the mixed box which is what we tested – it contains four of each of the three varieties. Once you work out your favourites, you can opt for a box of a particular variety.
These are a great snack and while I would only carry these bars on a hike, I will add them to my hiking meal rotation. If you want to provide your kids with some healthy snack options then these are a great alternative.

He said: This is my #2 choice and reminds me of cherry ripe but not as strong
She said: While I liked this one I preferred others so this is my #3

Chief Chocolate Berry Thankful Bars
He said: A little down the list at #3 and one that most people should enjoy. It is chocolaty in taste but without being overpowering. The only reason this one is #3 is that the others bring back childhood memories
She said: I really liked this one and its my #1 – it has a nice chewy texture and a good chocolate hit

Chief Choc Chia Bars
He said: The first of the three I tried and my favourite. I love lemon bars in general and this one is no exception. Having said that the flavour isn’t overpowering. Taste wise I rank this as #1
She said: This one is a close second for me. The flavour is subtle but very likeable
