Campers Pantry Vegetarian Pasta Medley Review
The Campers Pantry Vegetarian Pasta Medley is a plant-based powerhouse and loaded with a colourful mix of vegetables, beans, and grains, all coated in a rich, smoky tomato and basil sauce. Now I need to own up here and say that vegetable and pasta meals don’t rate high on my list of preferred meal options so this offering from Campers Pantry was always going to be a struggle for me.
Preparing this meal is relatively simple. Once you flatten out the bae of the bag and tear the top add 300 ml of boiling water before letting stand for a total of 15 minutes. At the five minute mark you need to stir the meal. I’d suggest adding a tiny bit more water and at around the 5 minute mark if it is still a bit solid.
Price wise this single serve meal is AUD$18.99 RRP at the time of review. For a single serve meal this is now sits in the average range for single serve freeze dried meals and given the compact packaging, quality of the meal, and longevity in storage, this meal is great value.
Size wise this meal is 100 grams dry and once rehydrated ends up being a reasonably sized 400 gram meal that will suit a big eater or can be split between two particularly if you are having a dessert. Surprisingly for a vegetarian meal this comes with 26.6 grams of protein which is just what you need at the end of the day. The calorie count for this single serve is also good coming in at 616 calories meaning you can minimise the weight you carry to get the appropriate food intake.
So how did the taste test go? As mentioned as a vegetable and pasta based meal this was never going to knock off a number of other meals in the Campers Pantry range. While it did have a bit of ‘heat’ to it due to the added paprika, it certainly won’t upset the typical hiker tastes and in fact will help to warm you up on those colder days.
While I would be happy to eat this on-trail, I do prefer meat based meals however if you are into vegetarian meal offerings then this one is worth considering.
