Real Meals Beef Stroganoff Review
In working my way through the Real Meal freeze dried range I had high expectations for the Real Meals Beef Stroganoff purely because its one of my favourite meals that I make on a regular basis at home. Having said that I found that in doing the taste test while it had a lot going for it, it also had some negatives that managed to push our scoring on this meal down.
First up this meal tasted as a real beef stroganoff and combined with the fettuccine provided a good consistency. If this was where I stopped the test this meal would have scored very highly. The counter the consistency the real negative for me was the 465mg/100g off sodium which when I looked back on the rest of the Real Meal range appears to be the highest. I typically don’t add salt to my meals and I found the level of saltiness to be very strong and in my case it detracted from what was a very tasty and very filling meal. If however you are a salt lover you are likely to enjoy this meal.
Back on the plus side this meal pack a punch providing 710 calories of energy so if you doing big days and burn lots of calories this is a meal that is going to help you replace all the energy that you have burnt throughout the day.It also has 27.8grams off protein which given this is a meat based meal will help to replenish the muscles at the end of the day.
To rehydrate he recommendation is to add 250ml of boiling water for 10 minutes to produce a finished meal size weighing in at 360 grams which is on the lower edge for the Real Meals range. Consistency wise this amount of water worked well.
At AUD $19.99 RRP the Real Meals Beef Stroganoff is towards the higher end of the single serve freeze dried range and had it have contained less salt it would defiantly made my meal list.
So is it worth taking on a hike? Providing you love your salt then the answer is yes! If however you aren’t a salt fan then look a just about any other meal in the Real Meal range because there are some great options.
