I’m a big fan of Kuhl pants and have been wearing them as my main pants choice for the past 3 years but I hadn’t tested out the Kuhl Resistor Jeans until now. I’m very happy with my Kuhl Radikl Jeans but I regret not testing out before Resistor Jeans because I really like them.
First up these pants are sold as jeans and that’s what the styling is, complete with rivets. The Resistor pants are stylish, slim fit outdoor pants. The fabric is a composite material consisting of 58% Cotton, 29% Nylon, 13% Spandex with a weight of 254 GSM which means they don’t feel like jeans. In fact, the material has a 4-way stretch which allows you to lunge or reach to your hearts content because the pants flex with your body rather than restrict your movement. While I haven’t worn these pants for an extended period, I expect them to last for a long, long time.
The cuffs are reinforced which is typically something you tend to see on alpine pants to cope with hard wearing. One downside of the pants is that because the fabric is so heavy duty, I found them a bit too warm and as much as I love the Resistors, from my perspective I won’t be wearing them on hikes with temperatures over 20 degrees. For warmer weather, I prefer to wear the Kuhl Radikl pants that breathe better and are lighter in weight but still coping with my cooler hikes.
The stitching and panel configuration on these pants is typical of other Kuhl pants – the panels are well positioned, robust and the construction has been well thought through which contributes to the comfort of these pants.
While Kuhl in the USA has a huge range of colours and sizings, the range is reduced to a more concise range for Australia. At 185 cm in height I found that the standard 32″ leg length suited me well which is something that is not always the case. That’s lucky because its hard to get longer pants in Oz. You may find a broader range of colours and sizes if you look around.
One of the things I love about Kuhl pants is the pocketing system and out of the Radikl, Renegade, and Resistor men’s pants, the Resistor has the best pocket system. There are rear jean pockets that I don’t use on any pants. The front jean pockets are very comfortable and I can actually fit my Sony ZV-1 compact Camera without having to force it in. The side leg pockets are one of the best pocketing systems that I have seen on outdoor pants and this is now where my iPhone and camera live which means that if I am using a pack without hip belt pockets, my paints do the work.
I really do love these pants and while I won’t wear them in the hotter months they have found a home in my wardrobe for both hiking and casual use. At AUD $169.95 RRP I think they are really good value given the sale, comfort and durability.
