Campers Pantry Spicy Capsicum Dip Review

Now I must admit that capsicum dip isn’t high on my list when I’m looking for a snack at the end of the day and in all honesty, I can’t remember the last time I purchased one. Its not that I don’t like this capsicum dip – it just doesn’t rank high on my list of choices. So when I tested the Spicy Capsicum Dip from Camper Pantry it was a bit of a surprise packet.

The name really says it all with the taste of capsicum. This dip is actually a commercial product that Campers Pantry has put through the freeze drying process and they’ve done it well. As far as the spiciness goes I’ve had spicier dips so as a spice lover I’d class it as mid level. If you don’t like spicy food then you may be better off going for one of the other options such as Hummus or Beetroot Dip.

This dip comes in a 100 gram packet and contains five x 20 gram serves but having said that, if you are using this as a meal then splitting this into two servings is makes sense. If all you want is a snack, then smaller serving sizes work well. Typically I tend to eat this dip by itself preferring to mix it up in a peanut butter jar and at other times I’ll eat it with flatbread but this depends on what I feel like on the day.

The only negative with this product is the price coming in at around $5.50 per 50 gram serve (freeze dried) so if you feel like making your own, you can do it much cheaper. Having said that preparing this at home may not be an easy option as some other dips that use simpler ingredient. What it comes down to is whether you could be bothered with the effort of making your own and that’s going to be the real decision point.

Along with the other Campers Pantry dips, I’ll be looking forward to eating this dip on future hikes.

We Like

• Mid level spicy, great for all taste buds so long as you like spicy food
• Minimal preparation time. All you are doing is rehydrating this dip – just add cold water and its ready to eat 
• Prepare in a seperate container and use as much or as little as you like
• Freeze dried. This takes much of the weight out of the meal and helps to limit the weight in your pack

We Don't Like

• The main negative of any commercially preprepared dehydrated or freeze dried food is the cost. It really comes down to whether you have the time to make your own and if you can achieve the same flavour

Best Uses

• Great option for a quick and easy lunch or dinner, or as a snack
